Aberdeen Folk Club is now meeting in The Inn at the Park, 3 – 5 Deemount Terrace, AB11 7XR, every Wednesday at 8.30pm
Aberdeen Folk Club celebrated its 60th Birthday in 2022. Come and join us as we continue the journey over the next 60 years.
Founded in 1962 by journalist Arthur Argo (great-grandson of folk song collector Gavin Greig) and fish merchant Danny Couper, Aberdeen Folk Club was established in response to Scotland’s nationwide folk music revival. The club quickly became a central gathering place for the revival movement, drawing on the region’s rich musical traditions while also engaging with the struggles and experiences of working people globally. Today, Aberdeen Folk Club remains a proud part of the lively folk and traditional music scene within Aberdeen City and Shire, celebrating the area’s musical heritage while embracing influences from across the folk world. We were even named Scottish Folk Club of the Year in 2022!
Over the years, Aberdeen Folk Club has hosted some of the most legendary figures in folk music, including Ewan MacColl and Peggy Seeger, Martin Carthy, Jeannie Robertson, and Pete Seeger. This tradition lives on, and we regularly welcome special guests from the Scottish music scene and beyond.
The folk club has had several homes over the years, even moving online during the Coronavirus pandemic so members could continue sharing music. We now meet weekly at The Inn at the Park, where the club continues to welcome performers and audiences who share a passion for tunes and songs. Each Wednesday, we meet at 20:00 for a 20:30 start. We often feature an optional theme for the night and regularly host special guest performances from prominent artists in the folk music scene. Entry to the club is free unless otherwise stated, and every week we hold a raffle.
At Aberdeen Folk Club, we embrace a broad definition of folk music: music for folk! Come and share a song of your choice (accompanied or unaccompanied), recite a poem, play a tune, or simply come along to listen! Everyone is welcome—regardless of age, background, or musical ability!
Come and be part of a friendly community where folk music is shared, enjoyed, and celebrated.
Membership costs £10 and can be paid on any club night (cash only). Membership lasts until the following 31st October and entitles you to concession admission rates at Aberdeen and Stonehaven Folk Club concerts. Anyone joining the Club for the first time during September or October will have membership until 31st October at the end of the following year.
